The first “Chain” Festival took place on May 15 and 15, 2004, as a monograph series of works by Witold Lutosławski at the Centre of Contemporary Art at the Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw. Conceived by the vice-president of the society, Andrzej Bauer, the two-day festival comprised 15 short, about one-hour meetings with the public, including chamber concerts, a concert of piano music, two concerts of the orchestra AUKSO under the direction of Marek Moś, a concert of children’s songs and a ‘children for children’ concert, as well as film screenings and meetings for reminiscences.
The festival included appearances by: Hanna Banaszak and her ensemble, Rafał Bartmiński, Ewa Biegas, Zdzisław Bogacz, Krystyna Borucińska, Jan Cielecki, Ryszard Groblewski, Maciej Grzybowski, Krzysztof Jakowicz, Kuba Jakowicz, Urszula Krygier, Piotr Kusiewicz, Rafał Kwiatkowski, Karol Marianowski, Mariusz Pędziałek, Maciej Piszek, Ewa Pobłocka, Jadwiga Rappé, Hakan Rosengren, Łukasz Rosiak, Anna Sikorzak-Olek, the string quartet Camerata, the Choir and Orchestra of the Public Music Schools Division No. 4 under the direction of Anna Perzanowska-Tarasiuk, as well as the Choir and Orchestra of the Public Music Schools’ Division No. 1 at Miodowa Street, under the direction of Ewa Marchwicka.
The festival was realized thanks to the financial support of the Capital City Council of Warsaw and the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, as well as the organizing partnership with the Centre of Contemporary Art at Zamek Ujazdowski. The media patronage was realized by TVP Polish Television, the Polish Radio, Rzeczpospolita (the newspaper Republic), and Jazz & Classics. The events of the festival were recorded and broadcast by Polish Radio Program 2.
