Summary of the Regulations of the Witold Lutosławski Society

The Witold Lutosławski Society, which was established in 1989, acts both in Poland and abroad. It is established under Polish law and headquartered in Warsaw. The Society undertakes to preserve artistic as well as spiritual legacy of Witold Lutosławski and to propagate his music.

In order to accomplish its aims the Society shall:

  • publish books, articles, etc.;
  • promote research projects;
  • organize concerts, exhibitions, lectures, etc.;
  • search for and preserve documentary and archival materials;
  • support and coordinate both individual and collective initiatives undertaken in Poland and abroad;
  • promote efforts to establish a museum dedicated to Witold Lutosławski;
  • offer counsel to persons, organizations and institutions pursuing aims consistent with those of the Society;
  • establish The Witold Lutosławski Award.

In pursuing its aims the Society will primarily depend on unsalaried work contributed by its membership. The Society may employ salaried officers to conduct its affairs.

Members, their rights and duties

The Society’s membership consists of ordinary, honorary and supporting members. Membership of the Society is open to both Polish and foreign nationals who subscribe to its aims and wish actively to contribute towards their implementation.
Ordinary or supporting membership is granted by the Society’s Board on the basis of a signed Declaration submitted by a candidate together with recommendations from at least two ordinary members, at least one of whom is member of the Society’s Board.

All members are entitled to:

  1. participate in any activities and/or events organized by the Society;
  2. attend General Meetings;
  3. to vote and to be election to position within the Society;
  4. to have access to the Society’s materials.

It is all members’ duty to:

  1. respect the Regulations of the Society in both its spirit as well as letter;
  2. regularly to pay annual dues (At the moment the annual due is 120 zlotys (or 40 euro) payable within three months of becoming member or till 30th March each years
  3. inform the Board about his or her initiatives promoting the Society’s aims;
  4. according to his or her capabilities to support projects undertaken both by the Society’s Board and/or its individual members to promote the Society’s aims.

Honorary membership is granted to distinguished personalities who have especially contributed to the promotion of the Society’s aims. Honorary membership is granted by the General Meeting at the motion of the Society’s Board.

General meeting, execute and control bodies

The General Meeting is the highest legislative body of the Society.
The Society has the following executive and control bodies:

  • The Society’s Board.
  • The Auditory Commission.

Members of the Society’s Board and the Auditory Commission are elected by the General Meeting for the term of three years.
The Society’ Board consists of three up to six persons.
The Board works under the direction of the Society’s President who is elected by the General Meeting by a separate vote.
